The 2008 Munken Agenda - Design companies that take environmental action presented in new Munken Agenda

Environmental consideration has been second nature to Arctic Paper since the late 1960s, and the company is now launching the 2008 Munken Agenda on the theme of ‘Changing the climate for design’. Twelve design companies, all representing cool design and environmental awareness, are presented in a shared forum for the first time. Munken design paper is one of the first papers in the world in which all qualities are FSC* certified, which benefits Mother Nature and also helps ensure the viable management of forest resources.

Small changes and active choices can have long-term positive effects on the environment. Munken is now continuing its environmental efforts on the theme of ‘Changing the climate for design’. The 2008 Munken Agenda presents 12 companies and brands from different sectors which think along the same lines as Munken and share the brand’s approach to design and sustainable development.

“We are proud to be chosen as a role model when it comes to combining high design standards with progressive environmental thinking. This is definitely a global issue for the future and the theme Changing the climate for design expresses this in a laudable way,” says Bo Franch at the American clothing company Bamboosa.

Munken is a high quality design paper which offers extensive opportunities to unite environmental responsibility with creative design. By using Munken paper for different kinds of printed material, advertising agencies, designers and printing houses can do their bit for the environment without compromising their ideas and creativity.

“A unique attribute to design as a development strategy is not to create desirability, but the attempt to sustain this desirability with time. Good design is sustainable per se. Being design driven, sustainable development is a natural part of our organisation. We hope that joining up with other businesses with similar beliefs will inspire more companies to join and challenge conventional thinking,” says Jens Martin Skibsted at Danish bicycle manufacturer Biomega.

The Agenda is printed on uncoated paper from the Munken range. The FSC-certified paper is produced at the mill in the town of Munkedal in western Sweden, where the water that leaves the mill is as clean as the water that goes in. The mill has been successfully working with environment-enhancing measures since the late 1960s.

* FSC, Forest Stewardship Council, is an international organisation dedicated to promoting environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. Requirements stipulated for FSC-certified forests include respect for the original population’s rights and that biologically valuable forest is managed in such a way that the natural values are preserved.
