Munken leads the way within eco-labelled design paper

All Munken design qualities are FSC certified. This has enabled Arctic Paper to consolidate its position as Europe’s leading environmentally-certified fine paper manufacturer. Since 2005, all book paper in the Munken range has been FSC certified. This means that all products in the Munken range are now FSC certified.

From January 2007, all qualities in the Munken design paper range – Munken Lynx, Munken Pure and Munken Polar – will be eco-labelled by the FSC. Munken has long been known in the paper industry for its quality, while the company is renowned for its long-term environmental initiatives at the mill in Munkedal, Sweden. Certification is also an acknowledgement of the company’s long-term, goal-oriented work towards ensuring sustainable fine paper production.

“Arctic Paper is a market leader within production of environmentally-sound, high-quality fine paper. Being able to offer our customers FSC-certified products is part of the challenge. We are safeguarding long-term sustainable production, focusing on the environment and quality. Certification of our design paper means that we are the only company on the market to have such a wide environmentally-sound range of uncoated design and book paper,” says Hans Karlander, Sales and Marketing Director at Arctic Paper AB.

Munken is developed and manufactured at the Arctic Paper Munkedals’ mill, which has come a long way with its environmental work, by both Swedish and international standards. Arctic Paper Munkedals is situated in a highly environmentally-sensitive area beside one of Sweden’s finest marine reserves, Gullmarsfjorden. Consequently, for many years, our operations have taken nature and the environment into careful consideration, and all our partners are subject to stringent requirements.

All Munken design paper qualities will now be eco-labelled with the FSC logo. This applies to a total of three different product categories and 36 different grammages. Certification means that all Munken qualities, nine product categories in total, are FSC certified.

“Several of our customers are very conscious of environmental issues, and demand for FSC-certified products has increased. It is very satisfying to know that we can now offer our customers an additional reason for choosing Munken.”

FSC certification applies to all Munken design paper, both products in stock and customer-specific goods, including the range of high grammages.

Facts about FSC:
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent, international membership-based organisation that promotes environmentally-compatible, socially-responsible and financially robust use of the world’s forests, by linking cultivation to consumption. The FSC operates a voluntary accreditation programme for organisations and companies that certify forestry management and products from such forests. The FSC’s Principles and Criteria contain comprehensive guidelines on how forestry resources should be managed that are generally valid throughout the world. These comprehensive rules are then adapted to suit different countries’ local conditions, and one of the FSC’s most important missions is therefore to support the work of developing nationally-adapted FSC forestry standards. Through international traceability and labelling rules for forest products, certified forestry can be linked to responsible consumption.
