Patrik Andersson, who lives in New York, is mainly known as a photographer for his emotional, playful imagery that strongly capture his subject’s personality. The images exist in a world that invites the observer to interact with the individual in the photograph. He likes to convey the contrast between the sophisticated and the ordinary. Subjects portrayed in the book include Isabella Rossellini, Kate Hudson, Karl Lagerfeld, Salman Rushdie, Mick Jagger, Lenny Kravitz, Whitney Houston, Bill Clinton, Jennifer Lopez and Cindy Crawford.

“The book has been a long, fun, dynamic process that I’ve worked on with good friends. It wasn’t easy to choose which pictures to include in the book because each image is unique. When I photograph someone it’s important to see the person behind the façade and to emphasise their personality from several perspectives. In the studio I can focus intently on the individual I´m photographing and it makes it easy to forget the outside world”, says Patrik Andersson.

The idea for the book came about back in 1999, but production did not begin until a few years later. The desire to make the book came from a sense of gratitude and started out as a retrospective of his career. The photographs in the book are not in any particular order but are instead reminiscent of a person’s unstructured memory. The name Kaleidoscope stems from this disarray and the spiritual spectrum conveyed by Patrik Andersson in his photographs.
Arctic the Volume is an FSC-certified, high-bulk, matt, double-coated fine paper available in grammages of 90 g/m2 to 715 g/m2. The matt surface gives a natural paper feeling and first-class image reproduction. Properties such as high bulk, opacity and stiffness make the paper suitable for high-quality printed books in four-colour, advertising material and magazines that require a special effect.
