The Guide to Uncoated Paper consists of a great numbers of examples and illustrations. To make the best of the information, you should order the book from the nearest Arctic Paper Contact.

Print production is a broad concept with as many sub-branches as an old oak. It encompasses a great many tasks and processes, such as repro and printing, choice of paper, image processing and so on. It even includes communication between the people in the process – ultimately perhaps the most important point. This is because experience shows that nine out of ten problems and results that don’t meet expectations are due to poor communication.

We can be sure that the people involved in producing a printed product have the necessary technology and industry know-how. In some cases it is just the interplay, the communication between people, that needs improving.

Indeed the aim of this manual is to create a common ground for communication, rather than to provide detailed information about each individual element of the work – you know that already. Having said that, there is of course also a good deal of useful information, and you should see the manual as a friend and guide to turn to when the printing winds seem to be blowing against you.

This section deals with repro and printing, i.e. the process from the point the graphic designer hands over his or her material. And since this guide is about printing on uncoated paper, the focus will be on adjustments that are particularly important when working with uncoated paper grades.
