Organisations praised for commitment to environmental management

Ten organisations received praise for their long-term work with the environmental management system EMAS.

The award ceremony took place at a national conference on smart environmental management in Stockholm last week.

We wanted to celebrate those organisations with transparent long-term and strategic environmental work. Some of these organisations have been EMAS registered for far more than ten years, says Sven-Olof Ryding , CEO of the Swedish Environmental Management Council.

The esteemed organisations received besides honor a plaque and a certificate. During the conference there were discussions on how to make use of environmental management in procurement, how to make use of EMAS in a nonprofit organisation, environmental management as a tool to reach national environmental targets etc.

To supply the market with credible information on environmental performance improves a company's or organisation's reputation, says Sven-Olof Ryding.

EMAS is the EU's Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, an environmental management system that covers all the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard. EMAS reporting shows in a transparent way how a company works proactively by continuously improving its environmental performance.

EMAS is viable in all markets around the world and is well established in Europe. EMAS is particularly useful in marketing efforts in the following markets: Germany, Spain and Italy.

The organisations honored at the ceremony were: AB Elektrokoppar, AB Gustav Kährs, Arctic Paper Grycksbo AB, Arctic Paper Munkedals AB, Forsmarks kraftgrupp AB, HR Björkmans entrémattor AB, JMS Mediasystem AB Rulloffset i Vellinge, Kinnarps AB, Ogeborg Golvagenturer AB, Ringhals AB, St1 Refinery, Stiftelsen Håll Sverige Rent, Stora Enso Fine Paper Nymölla bruk, Vattenfall AB Heat Sweden Operations and Villeroch & Boch Gustavsberg
