Cradle to Cradle Certified®

Arctic Paper – supporting circularity through responsible paper production

Arctic Paper has long been committed to creating a positive connection between paper production and nature. Inspired by the Cradle to Cradle Certified® concept, we have been working systematically with circularity and transparency across our mills.

What is Cradle to Cradle certification?

Cradle to Cradle Certified® is a globally recognised standard for safe, circular and responsibly produced products. The certification evaluates products across five quality categories: material health, material reutilisation, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.

The concept was created by Michael Braungart and William McDonough in the 1990s and is intended to support an integrated and consistent Circular Economy approach.

The Standard guides designers and manufacturers through a process of continual improvement, assessing a product’s sustainability performance across the five quality categories. A Cradle to Cradle Certified® product receives an achievement level in each category – Basic, Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum – with the lowest achievement level determining the product’s overall certification level.

Our Cradle to Cradle journey

Since 2020, Arctic Paper has been Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full Scope with most of its product portfolio. Arctic Paper Munkedals was the first paper mill worldwide to successfully complete a Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full Scope at the Bronze level according to version 3.1 certification for an entire paper range. Shortly followed by Arctic Paper Grycksbo with Cradle to Cradle Certified® Full scope at the Silver level according to version 3.1.

Where we are today

Today, Arctic Paper is transitioning to the more suitable program C2C Certified® Material Health. This ensures that our papers remain fully compatible for use by companies and brands that are Cradle to Cradle Certified®, while maintaining a strong focus on safe materials and transparency.

What does C2C Certified® Material Health mean?:

The product is designed with a focus on material health, ensuring that chemicals and materials used are selected to prioritize the protection of human health and the environment. By adhering to rigorous, science-based standards, we aim to generate a positive impact on the quality of materials available for future use and cycling.

Current Certifications:

  • Arctic Paper Grycksbo – C2C Certified® Material Health at Silver level according to version 4.1. Valid until 15 April 2028

  • Arctic Paper Munkedal – C2C Certified® Full Scope at Bronze level according to version 3.1. Valid until 23 June 2026
